Position Title: Chief Operations Officer, Primary Processing
Reports To: CEO
Location: Surrey, BC

About Sunrise Farms:
Sunrise Farms is a group of companies that has grown from an initial focus in the poultry industry including hatchery operations; poultry farming; primary processing (Sunrise Poultry Processors Ltd.); and further processing (Grand River Foods Ltd.); to distribution of other protein products across Canada.

Our humble start was in 1983 with one small processing facility in Surrey, British Columbia. We have now grown to serve a broad range of customers, both domestically and internationally. Sunrise Farms remains Canadian family owned, producing quality food products from processing plants located in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario.

From our hatcheries to our “ready to eat” state of the art cooking facilities we service customers in the retail, food service and industrial sectors. We are proud of our support of the Canadian farm as well as our investment in the latest equipment and technologies at our facilities across Canada. Our test kitchens have the most current cooking equipment replicating that used in commercial establishments, to facilitate precision testing. This way you know the product you receive will perform to your expectations.

POSITION Summary:
The Chief Operations Officer is a member of the company executive team. They will work collaboratively with the Executive team on strategic planning and be responsible for the execution of the strategic plan within the Primary Processing division. They will oversee ongoing business operations within the Primary Processing division which includes plant facilities in Surrey, Cloverdale, Calgary, Lethbridge, Taber, and Winnipeg.

PRIORITY:
Providing leadership, management, and vision to ensure that the business has effective people, operational controls, and reporting procedures in place. To effectively grow the company and ensure its financial strength and operating efficiency.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Set comprehensive goals for business growth and success
  • Responsible for implementing, and elevating new systems, processes and talent.
  • Develop business plans based on the strategic goals set by the Executive team
  • Review operational performance of the Primary Processing division with the Executive team on a regular basis
  • Drive continuous improvement of the operations teams to deliver maximum quality and yield, at minimum cost through the analysis and interpretation of data and metrics
  • Provide leadership to management to ensure that processes, safety, training, and quality reflect standards
  • Ensure operational structure has clearly defined responsibilities
  • Promote company culture and vision
  • You are driving the culture
  • Lead, inspire and be a motivator for other employees
  • Influence change in a rapidly changing / fluid environment
  • Maintain relationships with suppliers, partners and vendors
  • Travel flexibility; operations in BC, Alberta, and Manitoba

REQUIRED SKILL, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess a university education degree in business or related
  • Well-seasoned professional with minimum 10+ years in a Senior Operations Leadership role
  • An advanced analytical mindset coupled with a high level of financial acumen
  • Leads through building trust and inspiring people
  • Mentorship for your team excites you
  • In-depth knowledge of different business functions such as HR, Finance, marketing, etc.
  • Understands that operations need a holistic business approach
  • Excel at strategic thinking, be open to new perspectives and better ways to do things; creative, a visionary and manage innovation well
  • Values the input of others in decision-making
  • Ability to wear multiple hats and can both analyze and act with equal ease, strong ability to multitask
  • Strong decision-making skills and the determination to see projects through to the end
  • Results-driven, have a track record of delivering results, even under tough circumstances
  • Able to work, and lead your team under pressure
  • Good Knowledge of data analysis and KPI’s
  • High level of integrity, strong interpersonal skills, the ability to build consensus and put a strong emphasis on responsibility and accountability

COMPENSATION:
The range offered for this position is: $300,000 – $400,000 annually, with a 60% STI and 80% LTI.
Compensation offered within this range is based on factors unique to each candidate, including skills, qualifications, experience and credentials.
