Role: Although the VP-Finance position typically includes oversight of the Controller or Director of Finance and the Finance team led by that person, the nature of this position is different in its objectives. Rather than focusing on the details around how the Finance team accomplishes its duties, the VP-Finance is more concerned with working within the senior executive team to identify and implement strategic direction for the business. This involves analyzing operating results to consider implications to the existing and possible future operational paradigms. The VP-Finance also has primary responsibility to communicate operating results and plans to key stakeholders. The new VP Finance should have a solid understanding of accounting and financial principles, probably having attained a CPA designation which is perhaps supplemented by an MBA Finance or other training or experience in finance, strategic planning, leadership, and other aspects strengthening business acumen.
Responsibilities:
Report directly to the CEO and President
Oversee the Finance department on a high-level basis in collaboration with the Controller/Director of Finance, who is responsible for its direct day-to-day management
Identify best practices and tools for optimal fiscal management in collaboration with the Controller/Director of Finance
Monitor business performance and resource utilization from financial reports generated by Finance, as well as other reporting sources
Manage cashflow and liquidity to support business plans and operations
Consider operating and capital risk management in the context of available assets, liabilities, and planned strategic initiatives
Participate collaboratively as part of the senior executive team to establish long-range goals, strategies, and operating and capital plans and policies
Utilize analytical finance tools as appropriate to consider for example cost-benefit, discounted cashflow, NPV, and ROI, for support in senior executive team deliberations
Consider tax and shareholder implications of decisions contemplated by the senior executive team
Prepare forecasts and operating and capital budgets reflecting updated operational and financial conditions, and/or the effect of strategic initiatives identified by the senior executive team
Acquire industry knowledge and an informed sense of economic trends that are relevant for purposes of assessing opportunities and potential challenges for the company
Present reports, forecasts, and relevant explanations to the senior executive team, lenders, and other key stakeholders
Hone leadership, communication, and change management skills
Required Skills and Experience: 7-10 years in Senior Finance Role CPA Designation Bank Financing and Investor Relations experience Modelling/Forecasting/Budgeting experience Experience with Legal and Real Estate Contracts would be an asset

This role is located in Mission, BC.
Compensation: The range offered for this position is: $170,000 – $190,000 annually, plus bonus.
