Job Title: Financial Controller
Location: In-office – Mission, BC

Position Summary
As Financial Controller, you will lead Summit Earthworks’ Finance Team and oversee all aspects of financial and management reporting. You will ensure the accurate and timely delivery of financial statements, while maintaining strong internal controls and accounting practices. This role includes oversight of general accounting, A/P, A/R, sales tax compliance, period close, GL reconciliations, and variance analysis. You will support the CFO with budgeting, forecasting, daily cash flow management, and banking transactions, and act as a strategic partner across the organization to drive financial performance and support the company’s growth.
Key Responsibilities
Foundational Accounting & Controls
- Oversee all general ledger activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP
- Support the preparation and posting of journal entries and account reconciliations
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes
- Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting policies
Account Reconciliations & Documentation
- Lead the preparation and review of account reconciliations across all balance sheet accounts
- Ensure timely and accurate reconciliation of intercompany and bank accounts
- Organize and maintain financial records and supporting documentation for audits and internal reviews
Team Leadership & Development
- Supervise and mentor a small team of accounting professionals
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Provide training and development opportunities to enhance team capabilities
Variance Analysis & Reporting
- Perform monthly variance analysis on actuals vs. budget/forecast
- Prepare financial reports and dashboards for senior leadership
- Identify trends, risks, and opportunities to improve financial performance
Financial Consolidation
- Manage the consolidation of financial statements across multiple entities
- Ensure accuracy and consistency in intercompany eliminations and reporting
- Support external audit and tax preparation processes
Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Flow
- Support the CFO in the annual budgeting process and forecast preparation
- Assist with daily cash flow management and banking transactions
- Collaborate with department leaders to gather inputs and validate assumptions
Qualifications
- CPA designation is required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles
- Public practice experience is an asset
- Experience with Spectrum ERP is an asset
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
